Troy Cummings is a household name in my K-5 school where I serve as the librarian. We know him best for his Notebook of Doom Series by which we get to experience his whimsical, mixed-up, mashed-up creatures like the Playing Mantis and the Forkupine. My students are incredibly inspired by his creativity and imagination so we take the time to study his craft and go beyond our favorite series, to explore his stand-alone books. Giddy-Up, Daddy! was given to us as a gift-signed by Troy Cummings! We enjoyed it a great deal and are thrilled to add it to our collection of favorites.

There are things that our children love to do with us moms and dads. Things they look up to and admire you for simply because they think you’re the best! To them, you might be the best pancake maker in the world or the best bedtime story teller. The dad in Giddy-Up, Daddy!, I can assure you is the absolute best at playing horsey. He is so convincing in fact that he gallops his way right into the wily plans of the rotten rustlers who want to use him to win the rodeo. The bad guys, however, are no match for the quick witted kids and their nimble dad who escapes a lasso, walks a tight rope, and leaps through a flaming hoop of doom all before dinner time. I have no doubt that you will enjoy this story as much as we did.
