Each page tugged at my heartstrings with every sentiment this father shared about his love for his little girl. He loved her before he’d ever laid eyes on her; loved her mom too and took good care of her when she felt exhausted, had a quirky craving, or just needed her feet rubbed. When his baby girl arrived, he had a new job to do. As her dad, he would teach her how to be kind, how to enjoy life, how to express her creativity, and he would definitely make her laugh and giggle – a lot!

What a sweet, sweet book! You need this book in your life. Your daughters need it. Dads and moms need it too! There’s a certain art teacher who works at my school who I think needs it as well. He and his wife are expecting their first baby and I feel like I must gift this book to their family. May it warm their hearts as much as it did mine.

After reading the note about the author at the end, I learned that there is also a You Made Me a Mother book that was published in 2016. I bet that book is good too. It looks like it has a different illustrator though and I really enjoyed Mike Malbrough’s work in You Made Me a Dad. At any rate, this is definitely a book that I will add to my K-5 library!
