My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Gwen is tormenting herself with thoughts of regret over outcomes that are really outside of her control. She blames herself for everything that’s gone wrong and wonders if being bitten by a mutated spider is a blessing or a curse. To top that off, Frank Castle has still been keeping a watchful eye on her ever since their last encounter, where he’d seen her face. Suspicion confirmed. What’s next? Wouldn’t things be better for everyone if she just went back to being regular old Gwen? Once the Spidey isotopes run out, she may not have a choice anyway. Her bandmates would we be happy. Her dad would be safe. All would be well with the world, wouldn’t it?

As a whole, this volume doesn’t exactly move the story forward much further but it does set the stage for what comes next. At her wits’ end and with nowhere to turn for help, Gwen partners with the Kingpin and is now at his service. This could only mean more trouble! Plus, Captain Stacy turns himself in for the part he played in letting Spider-Woman get away. As Frank Castle would put it, he chose his daughter over duty.

I read this volume back in February (2019) and have since moved on to Cindy Moon and Jessica Drew’s stories. I’m not sure where I’m headed next. I may dive into Ta-Nehisi Coates Black Panther.
