Festival of Colors by Kabir Sehgal
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
The Festival of Colors by Kabir Sehgal and Surishtha Sehgal follows two children who excitedly prepare for Holi, the Indian Festival of Colors that according to the author’s note, symbolizes inclusiveness, new beginnings, and the triumph of good over evil.
The illustrations (by Vashti Harrison) are rich with vibrant colors and capture the beauty of the celebration, giving the reader an insider’s view of the festivities through the eyes of the children and their family.
This book made for a nice introduction to Holi and may spur the reader on to learn more about the celebration. It is a good fit for my K-5 library and is one that I might recommend to my 3rd grade teachers next year as they study India.
