Bears Make the Best Math Buddies by Carmen Oliver
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Review of an Advance Reader Copy that was sent on a #BookExcursion | Book releases July 2019
Bear is Adelaide’s best friend and is the best reading buddy around but this time, we learn that Bear is also really good at math. When it comes time to pick partners in class and Adelaide does not have one, she needs to convince her teacher that Bear would make the best math buddy. Bear can measure any distance, count all sorts of things, and knows that sometimes finding the best solution takes practice. “Sometimes you have to make a few mistakes, turn over a few rocks, and really dig deep to discover the solution.” Before long the teacher and the reader will be convinced that Bear is the perfect choice.
What a wonderful follow-up to Bears Make the Best Reading Buddies. Carmen Oliver’s mathematical storyline and Jean Claude’s bright and cheerful illustrations add up to one good read! I will definitely purchase this book for my library when it releases in July. Its story is evergreen but I think Bears Make the Best Math Buddies would fit perfectly at the beginning of the school year when classrooms are establishing a community of learners who are problem solvers and are eager to learn and grow together. I would recommend this book for all of K-5.
P.S. I peeped the easter egg at the end of the book. Carmen Oliver, can we maybe look forward to a third installment?
