Spider-Gwen: Most Wanted | by Jason Latour

Spider-Gwen, Vol. 0: Most Wanted?Spider-Gwen, Vol. 0: Most Wanted? by Jason Latour

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Gwen Stacy is in a band where she is the drummer. Pounding out would be hits with The Mary Janes! Between memories that haunt her over Peter Parker’s untimely death, and her evening run-ins with Fisk’s associates (the Vulture and even Fisk’s attorney, Matt Murdock), she is an unreliable bandmate, to say the least. With everyone wrongfully blaming Spider-Woman for Peter’s death, Gwen has to do whatever she can to exonerate her name while keeping her dad, Captain Stacy safe, and hiding her identity from those who pursue her. Who will keep Gwen safe though from Lieutenant Frank Castle who is hell-bent on taking Spider Woman down? What really happened the day Peter died?

This was my first go at reading Spider-Gwen and Most Wanted made for a nice introduction but this wasn’t the first time I’d seen her in the comics. I first became interested in learning more about Spider-Gwen while I was reading my way through the Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man comics and came upon Spider-Man/Spider-Gwen Sitting in a Tree! The Multiverse blew my mind and left it spinning in circles as they swung in and out of dimensions. It was because of reading that issue, that I knew that Spider-Gwen was from a different dimension (where she was bitten by a radioactive spider, instead of Peter). I entered into reading Most Wanted with that background knowledge in mind. I’m realizing however that I still have much to learn. Is the name Spider-Woman interchangeable with Spider-Gwen? Or was Spider-Woman someone altogether different at some point? If you’ve read either of these story arcs, please do weigh in. Just keep in mind that I’m not that far in yet since I’ve only read Most Wanted. I’m trying as best I can to avoid spoilers. Next up I’ll be reading Greater Power.

If you’re curious, I used Robert Kuykendall’s article on the Where to Start Reading site to help me figure out what order to read the Spider-Gwen comics. You can read what I thought about the Spider-Man/Spider-Gwen Sitting in a Tree issue here.
