I Got the Christmas Spirit by Connie Schofield-Morrison [CeCe’s Book Review]

I Got the Christmas SpiritI Got the Christmas Spirit by Connie Schofield-Morrison

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Connie Schofield-Morrison and Frank Morrison make an incredible team and I am thrilled to have the chance to read another story featuring their infectiously exuberant little girl from their book, I Got the Rhythm. This time around she experiences the sensations of the Christmas spirit felt all around her in their family’s neighborhood. She can see it in the snow that falls and the sparkle of the beautiful lights. She can hear it in the ringing of the church bells, and the joyful sounds of the carolers singing. She can share it with the warmth of her smile and from her heart of compassion that gives to those in need. She’s got the Christmas spirit indeed.

The pages are dotted with flurries of snowflakes putting the reader in the center of a magnificent winter wonderland with illustrations that give you all of the warm and fuzzy feelings of the season. First and foremost joy. Followed closely by love; of family and community.

I Got the Christmas Spirit would be a good book to read during the Christmas season but has themes that are sure to resonate with the reader all year long. I will certainly plan to add this to my K-5 library collection and look forward to reading it with my students soon. This book would make a great read aloud and is well-suited for primary age students grades Pre-k through 2nd.
