The Secrets of Ninja School by Deb Pilutti
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Note: This is an Advance Reader’s Edition | Book releases in March 2018
New saplings are welcomed to Master Willow’s School for Ninjas where they will work hard to unlock their ninja skills. The way of the ninja requires stealth, patience, and bravery. Poor Ruby feels she may never measure up to any of these things and fears she won’t have what it takes to graduate from ninja school. When an opportunity arises to help her friends, will she be able to rise above her fears and be a hero when it matters most?
So many of my students are aspiring ninjas. Okay, maybe not really but as it pertains to their reading interests, ninjas are ALWAYS a big hit! The Secrets of Ninja School is a title that I feel will get checked out regularly in my K-5 school library. The illustrations are playful and pair well with the text and do a good job connecting the reader to Ruby. Readers will relate to the feelings of insecurity that Ruby experiences and will also celebrate in her victory as she realizes her special talents and skills.
This book also includes a nice bonus craft activity. Readers can make their own dragon softie just like Ruby did. It includes patterns and instructions for sewing as well as a no-sew option.
