My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Wow! I don’t know how I ever overlooked this book. It is altogether witty and delightfully bustling with brilliance. A family torn by mutual disdain who has flights of fancy about one another’s demise. May sound like a daunting plot but it is in fact very crafty and enjoyable. I love that Lois Lowry doesn’t hold back her use of big, beautiful words that challenge young readers. She also makes reference throughout this story to several classic books. In the end there is a glossary and bibliography with reference to annotations for each big word and each book. I also heard a movie is in the works. I would love to see how this story plays out on the big screen. I would recommend this book for middle grade readers 4th grade and up.
