Ms. Bixby’s Last Day by John David Anderson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Just finished this one today and I really enjoyed it. What won’t these boys do to give their favorite teacher a great last day? The story shifts between each boy’s perspective as we quickly learn what Ms. Bixby means to each of them. It is the perfect mix of adventure, silliness, joy, and sorrow, with a triple dose of boy humor. I would recommend this book for upper elementary and middle grade students.
After I read the book, I knew that I needed to share it with my students. It was my top choicde for the 5th Grade Boys Book Club I ran in the 2016/2017 school year. They really enjoyed it, finding that they could relate to the characters, Brand, Steve, and Topher. Then of course, there was the fact that we got to Skype with the author! It was such a fun way to connect with the John David Anderson. He was funny, relevant and able to captivate and inspire our students all at once. It is an experience we will never forget!

This book served as our selection for our 5th grade boys library book club. Our students, and the teachers who joined us really loved this book. As an added bonus, John David Anderson did a Google Hangout with us to discuss his book. The kids , my teachers, and our principal loved him.
